  • Bowl for Kids’ Sake - Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Columbia Gorge’s largest fundraising event!
    March 13, 2010 -- Saturday, March 13, 2010 Bowl for Kids' Sake is coming to Orchard Lanes in Hood River.

    * Local businesses sponsor the event. Learn more about sponsorships by calling Kristin Reese at 541-308-2231.

    * Team Captains recruit 4 other bowlers, for a team of 5 bowlers.

    * Bowlers and Team Captains raise pledges to support Big Brothers Big Sisters.

    * Your team can support a match for 3 months=$313, 6 months=$625, or 12 months=$1,250.

    * We ask each member to raise a minimum of $50, and for those who raise $100 or more, we have a Bowl for Kids' Sake t-shirt for you!

    Friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, clubs and congregations pledge to support bowlers and Team Captains. All team members collect pledges on a Pledge Sheet

    Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Columbia Gorge staff members help the Teams succeed.

    Today, 61 kids in the Gorge have a Big Brother or Big Sister in their life. There are 20 more kids waiting for a "Big" of their own. With your support we will be able to serve 85 kids in 2010.   • Waterfront Community Park's Spring Fling
    March 13, 2010 -- Date: Sat., March 13th
    Time: 7-10pm
    Place: The Pines Winery in Hood River
    What: Light appetizers, beer and wine available, music by the Unrelated Meyers, and a few auction items.
    Cost: $25/ticket
    Why?: Landscaping needs. We are trying to raise $ to buy more trees and shrubs. If you haven't been to the park in awhile, mosey on down. The benches are in and they have started work on the two covered picnic shelters!

  • Maryhill Museum opens for 70th Anniversary Season
    March 15, 2010 -- Maryhill will re-open for the season on March 15, 2010 with '70: Seven Decades of Collecting at Maryhill Museum of Art,' a celebratory exhibit exploring the museum’s 70-year legacy of collecting.

    The exhibition, which will remain on view through May 31, 2010, features more than 100 prime objects, many acquired by the museum’s four founding patrons: Sam Hill, Queen Marie of Romania, modern dance pioneer Loie Fuller, and San Francisco arts patron and socialite, Alma de Bretteville Spreckels.

    Opening day festivities take place Saturday, March 20, 2010 (information below) and include an exhibit tour with curator Steve Grafe, a Family Fun activity, dedication of the museum’s Windy Flats Walkway & Viewpoint, and a festive evening reception.

  • Maryhill Museum of Art 70 year Anniversary
    March 20, 2010 -- Saturday, March 20, features a host of opening day events. New curator Steve Grafe will lead a tour of the opening exhibit beginning at 3 p.m. Family Fun Day will engage children in creation of an anniversary artwork, the Great 70-Object Art Assemblage.

    At 2:00 P.M. in the EyeSEE Activity Room, visitors will be invited to meet art students from Nixya’awii High School, Pendleton Oregon we showcase self-portraits created by them at Crow’s Shadow Institute of the Arts.

    At 4 p.m., join museum staff and other dignitaries for dedicaton of the new Windy Flats Walkway and Viewpoint. This addition to the museum's gardens features native plants, a fence crafted by Mosier artist Tom Herrera inset with glass panels by Linda Steider, and stunning views of the Gorge.

    The 2010 inaugural festivities conclude with a reception at 5 p.m. The exhibit and day are sponsored by the Maryhill Museum of Art Board of Trustees in honor of the museum’s 70th anniversary.

  • WAAM It! All ages, all abilities Round Robin Ping Pong Tournament.
    March 20, 2010 -- It's happening from 10am-6pm.

    Please pre-register if you plan to play some pong. Day of ping pong registration is 10am.

    Sign up now for some ping pong fun among the airplanes at the Western Antique Airplane and Automobile Museum in Hood River. Ping pong, airplanes, BBQ, silent auction, WII ping pong, and we're even raffling off a helicopter ride!

  • Laugh till it Helps - A night of Comedy to benefit The Next Door, Inc.
    April 3, 2010 -- Sponsored by The Next Door, Inc. - This year's event is at Columbia Center for the Arts, two shows at 6 pm and 8 pm. Tickets available at Waucoma Books.

    Our comic star is nationally touring comedian Dave Anderson. Dave AndersonDave has performed at the country’s premier comedy clubs, including the world famous Improv in Los Angeles. He has appeared on numerous television shows including “Star Search,” Showtime’s “Comedy Club Network,” and “An Evening at the Improv.”

  • Bodyworks - A short series of classes on family health
    April 5, 2010 -- Many parents are worried about their kids' activity habits. Kids spend so much time watching TV, playing video games, using social media, and otherwise not moving much.

    So, we're starting a program that helps parents get their kids (and themselves) off the couch. BodyWorks is a short series of classes where parents and children (ages 9-13) work together to become more active and eat healthier food.

  • Trout Lake Run - 5K, 10K, and 1/2 marathon
    April 10, 2010 -- 9am start time. Pre-registration encouraged. Day of registration starts at 8am.

    This is a family friendly event put on by the Trout Lake School class of 2012. This is a great run. Very family oriented, bring the kids, your dog, and come inspire your family to get active. Age category awards. Very flat run (or walk) through the beautiful Trout Lake community. Bring you're family to Trout Lake for a fun, active day.
