Vaccine
The Hood River County Health Department has
a new vaccine called Prevnar to help protect
against invasive pneumococcal diseases, which
are caused by a microscopic bacterium that
can be potentially life-threatening to children. Meningitis
and Bacteremia (blood infection) are examples of diseases that are targeted
by this new vaccine. For more information, call the Hood River

Infants & Children

Birth

Td (Tetanus) should be given every ten years throughout
life.
** Children in Kindergarten and childrens' facilities are
now required to be vaccinated for Chicken Pox if they
have not already had the disease.
Hepatitis B series, second MMR and chicken pox (either vaccine or disease history) are required for all school aged children. Students will be kept out of school of they are missing shots or don't have an appropriate signed medical or religious exemption. Students will remain out of school until they come into compliance
Adolescents

All the major medical associations agree that teens need shots to stay healthy, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Advisory Committee on Immunization practices.
